Our Hiring Process
Being a ROWE company, we are duty-bound to hire only the very best people. People we think will fit in. So, our hiring process is methodical, personal, and, well… long. If you’re thinking about working with us, it’s only fair that we warn you ahead of time.
Why is our hiring process so long and involved? Well, in a ROWE company, it takes only one person to gum up the works. ROWE is all about trust. You have to be reliable, independent, and a true team player to succeed. That combination is more rare than you might think, and ROWE demands that we hire people who embody all those qualities. Finding the next Rippler is a tough job and it takes time. Here’s how we do it:
We post the job mission on our site. It might look a little different than a normal job description. That’s because we work differently than most companies. But if you’re someone who can understand goals, apply your knowledge, and make things happen, that’s a great start. So, you provide your contact information, write a brief description of yourself, and attach a resume.
After submitting the application, you’ll receive a friendly, automated email. In the body, there’ll be a link to a short aptitude test. This test will clue us in to your work style. But it’s not the sole determining factor. We’ll want to know a lot more about you, and you’ll certainly want to know more about us.
Next, you’ll get a phone call from one or more members of our Team. They’ll ask all kinds of questions, and will expect to hear real stories, not platitudes. Simply saying you’re a “people person” isn’t gonna cut it. Don’t get us wrong. We want nice people, but true tales of real customer interactions are gold. And gold beats nice.
Assuming all goes well on the phone, it’s time to meet the Team. We’ll invite you down to the office, make you some coffee, and shoot the breeze. It’s pretty informal, but everyone on the Team will be thinking one thing: “Do I want to work with this person?” No doubt you’ll be asking yourself: “Do I want to work with these people?” If so, there’s a bit more to do. Positions of a technical nature will require you to engage in a troubleshooting session with a prospective co-worker. You’ll also take a formal skills test. It’s all designed to give us a better idea about how you think.
After your visit, the Team sits down and talks about the impression you’ve made. If you get a unanimous thumbs-up, the next step is checking your references. Yes, we know that’s usually the last step for most companies. But we’re interested in more than just where you’ve worked. We want to have some context and understanding of you from your past employers. Were you fun to work with? Did you build good relationship with your co-workers? Would they recommend you for another job? That’s important stuff to us.
Ok, you’re still reading. Good. Now, if we’ve determined that your references are solid, it’s time for The Big Interview. This involves another visit to Ripple headquarters, more coffee, and even more questions. We want to know what makes you tick. Stories are great, generalities are not. We’ll ask about past projects, interactions with co-workers, and what you did and didn’t like about the places you’ve worked. We might even go all the way back to high school. But then, you’ll get to do the same. Ask us anything and everything.
After all that, we’ll talk benefits. Welcome to the Team!
