We often guide our small business customers to software as a service, such as Google Apps, AppRiver Hosted Exchange, Rackspace web hosting, even Adobe Creative Cloud. Paying monthly only for what you use makes a lot of sense for any business, but especially for small businesses that might go from 10 mailboxes to 13 in a given month, or vice versa. What doesn’t make sense is any SaaS that requires an annual commitment. I understand offering a lower price if I commit to a year, but I don’t understand requiring annual commitments. If you offer software as a service, and you want small business customers, don’t require an annual commitment.
